Description:
-Spirit Type Category: Whis-Scotch – Single Malt
-Country: Scotland Island – Islay
-Distiller: Lagavulin
-Bottling Age: 16 years old
-Color: Pale Straw
-Nose: Though there is an intense peat smoke with iodine and seaweed with a rich and deep sweetness, you will experience no rush of peat or smokiness
to your nostrils. There are hints of the two aromas, but neither is overwhelming. Instead the aroma is deep, complex and inviting.
-Taste: The taste of the whisky, like the aroma, is complex. Dry peat smoke fills the palate with a gentle but strong sweetness, followed by sea and
salt with touches of wood. There is no burning on the tongue, no rush of a single taste or flavor. Instead, there is rich complexity of flavors that seems
to dance on the tongue and might seem a little reminiscent of fruit but is mostly warm and smooth.
-Finish: It finishes with a long, elegant peat-filled with lots of salt and seaweed. Here s where the peat and smokiness hits you, but it s just a
smooth, loving touch at the back of the tongue and the throat. It lingers just enough to make you want more.
-Body: Full and Rich Spirit Price Detail: $64.99/ 750mlSpirit Reviews & Ratings:
-Wine Enthusiast (2004): Soy sauce, olive brine, peat, honey, oloroso Sherry, brewer s yeast, bread dough, barley malt and cigar smoke in the
bouquet. The flavor that magically includes the innate intense peatiness of Islay malts and the masterly employment of oak barrels phase defines classy
Islay . Concludes sweetly, without sacrificing the tangy, astringent peatiness that is inherent. Gorgeous. Score -90-95 . Wine Enthusiast, April 01, 2004.
-Wine Enthusiast (2012): Double Gold San Francisco Spirits Competition. Rich on the palate with hints of sherry, the finish is long and smooth. Score
97 – Wine Enthusiast, April 10, 2012.
-Beverage Testing Institute: Outstanding aromas fill the glass with smoky peat, Sherry wood and sea salt; extraordinarily perfumed moderately
full-bodied with a viscous mouth feel. Score-99 – Beverage Testing Institute.Spirit – Food pairing:
-In contrast to the conservative pairing of usually refraining it until after dinner, this
Single Malt delight
is a very good accompaniment
with prime rib tenderloin (with spring garlic, Zante currants and Gorgonzola cheese).
-It is also popularly paired with the cigar.
-Lagavulin 16 years
Single Malt Scotch
also works in an extraordinary way with intensely flavored salty blue cheeses Roquefort, Stilton,
Gorgonzola and Lanark Blue and with anchovies on toast.
