Dust Mites Treatment

by

alice roseDifferent types of mites require different types of mite treatment. There are many varieties of mites, so determining which mite is creating a problem in your life will be the first step to take in remedying the situation. On the surface, people’s house looks perfectly clean but what’s under the surface is what’s making most people sick. These little critters, microscopic spider like creatures called dust mites roam around our homes, even sleeping with us. Dust mites are microscopic creatures that live even in the cleanest of homes. House dust mites are relatives of spiders.

Dust mites favor hot and humid environments because they absorb air moisture. Humidity between 70% to 80% coupled with optimum temperatures of about 75 degrees to 80 degrees Fahrenheit is the prefect environment setting for dust mites. Such climate will help dust mites consume their food well. Dust mites live between 30 and 70 days, but their fecal matter and digestive process, which generates enzyme-infested dust particles, are catalysts for allergic reactions in humans. Common symptoms of allergic reactions to dust mites include symptoms similar to persistent common colds and hay fever as well as seemingly chronic ear infections, eczema, asthma, itchy patches of skin on the face and elbows and much more.

People who are allergic are allergic to the residue that dust mites leave behind in the form of their feces and the decaying bodies mixes with dust and becomes airborne. If you’re allergic to dust mites, you may develop a red, itchy bump where the dust mite extract was scratched onto your skin. If you often wake up with congestion, a runny nose, watery eyes, itching, or sneezing, then you’re most likely allergic to dust mites. Allergy is caused by a defect in the human immune system whereby harmless bits of benign proteins are mis-identified and the immune system is called into action when it is not necessary. Stopping the allergic reaction depends on stopping the exposure to the allergy causing protein.

While you are hopefully enjoying a good nights sleep, these unwanted, uninvited guests are having a riotous time eating, drinking and “doing what comes naturally”. Every time you turn in your sleep, you create a cloud of allergen-rich dust mite waste that you automatically breathe in. This is a critical situation for any asthma sufferer. Since humans shed most of our dead skins while we sleep, our beds have a very high concentration of dust mites, their feces and dead comrades. For Eczema sufferers, regular change of bed sheets and bed covers would be highly recommended. Other fabric covered furniture such as sofas, chairs and carpets should be vacuumed as much as possible, and sprayed with disinfectant regularly to prevent dust mites build-up.
